Dr. Heitman's research focuses on
how cells sense their environment via
signal transduction cascades. Their
studies focus on two approaches. The
first utilizes small molecules to dissect
signaling cascades. The second focuses
on how cells differentiate in response
to nutrients. Complementary studies
are conducted in the yeast Saccharomyces
cerevisiae and in the opportunistic
fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans.
